Ruthless
How many have laid waste to your life when you weren’t aware of what you were losing, how much was wasted in pointless grief, foolish joy, greedy desire, and social amusements - how little of your own was left of you. You will realize you are dying before your time!
Seneca, On the brevity of life, 303b
Learn to say no. Something I never do. Friends want to hang out, but you don’t. I still say yes, knowing I will either not enjoy it or I will look for any excuse to not go or leave early. I miss people, but for some reason I cant stand being around them for long. The social pressure is too much for me, I have become too used to being alone.
Saying no can be the hardest of tasks, because who wants to let someone else down. Think of yourself, you and your opinions / desires are important as well. If oyu don’t take care of yourself, no one will, or can, do that for you. Nor should it be someone elses responsibility.
I offer you some kind ways you can say no to someone:
• I appreciate your offer, but unfortunately, I won’t be able to take part at this time.
• Thank you for thinking of me, but I’m unable to commit to that right now.
• I’m flattered by your invitation, but I have other obligations that prevent me from participating.
• I’m sorry, but I won’t be able to help out with that request.
• I’ve considered your proposal, but I’m unable to accommodate it at this moment.
• I understand the importance of what you’re asking, but I’m unable to take on any more responsibilities.
• I value your trust in me, but I have to decline the opportunity.
• I’m grateful for your offer, but I need to prioritize my existing commitments.
• I’ve thought about it, but I’m not able to contribute in the way you’re asking.
• I’m sorry, but I have to respectfully decline.
• No.
Become comfortable valuing your time.
Become comfortable placing importance in your own life.
Become comfortable saying no.
