Focus

The chief task in life is simply this: To identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I actually control. Where then do I look for good and evil? Not uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own

-Epictetus, Discourses, 2.5.4-5

Our focus should be on that which we can control, not that which we cannot.

Despite external forces, we posses the ability to choose our responses and actions. We must embrace this autonomy.

Instead of attributing good and evil on external circumstances or events, We should look inwards. By understanding our own values, principles, and moral compass, we gain insight into what truly defines good and evil for ourselves.

We need introspection and self-awareness. By regularly examining our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves. This self-awareness allows us to make conscious choices aligned with our values and to recognize patterns or biases that may influence our decision-making.

Through introspection, we become architects of our own lives. We unravel the intricacies of our thoughts, emotions, and desires. We delve into the depths of our motivations and intentions, peeling back the layers of our complex existence. In this profound exploration, we gain clarity and insight, enabling us to separate the externals from the internals.

Embrace the power of focusing on what you can control, for it holds the key to liberation and personal growth
